Election information


Election

We will be having our annual elections on Wednesday, April 22nd. You are eligible to run in the election and vote if you have attended and signed in at three meetings this academic year. The positions are President, Vice President, Treasurer, Director of Public Relations, Director of Community Relations, Secretary, and Webmaster. If you are interested in any of these positions please send in a statement by April 19th, we allow people to drop-down to other categories if they don't succeed in their first choice but you can't go up--refer to the positions as listed above. See the constitution for more information about these positions. If you have any other questions contact me or someone on the executive board.

Important Information

  • You can be nominated from the floor.
  • The election manager is the highest-ranking member of the group not running--Vice President John-David Brown
  • Speaking times will be established by the election manager at the election. For president, candidates will have at least 5 minutes. For all other positions, candidates will have at least 3 minutes.
  • Each candidate may take questions after all the candidates in their group have spoken for a period specified by the election manager.
  • Candidates will then leave the room and discuss the merits of the candidates.
  • Voting is then by secret ballot.
  • To win you must receive at least 50 percent of the vote. Runoffs are immediate.
  • Ties are broken by going to a second ballot.
  • All candidates have the right to see and inspect ballots after the election.
  • The new executive board takes over after the election meeting.
